October to March — cool, lush, waterfalls at full flow. July–September: monsoon transforms the ghats beautifully but roads can be tricky. Avoid April–May (extreme heat).
Hire a local cab or SUV for day trips — roads to Deomali, Gupteswar and Gulmi can be rough. Jeypore is the best base. Shared autos run frequently on Jeypore–Koraput route.
BSNL has the best coverage in remote tribal areas. Jio and Airtel work well in towns. Download offline maps (Google Maps or Maps.me) before venturing into the hills.
Carry mosquito repellent and basic first-aid. Malaria prophylaxis advised for forest visits. Drink bottled water. Koraput district hospital is well-equipped for emergencies.
